What do you say to someone who experienced a major loss?
"I don't know what to say but I know this is a very tough time for you, I want you to know I am thinking about you".
I just had someone share these words with me; it touched me. I do not hear these words very often.
Lean in.
Bring it up. Acknowledge the loss.
Crying is healing.
When we lean in it says "I care", "you are seen", "you are not alone".
For most this simple act makes a big difference.
It is awkward and uncomfortable to interact with someone who had a major loss in their life but letting them know you care in my experience is always better than saying nothing at all.
